Crack stitch repair contractor in the East Midlands
We carry out all levels of brickwork crack repair and crack stitching using non destructive methods such as helical bar and also the innovative new Strucsol Ultrabar Composite that is as stronger alternative to steel helical bar.
On all of our repairs, we use dust-free methods (as seen here) to minimise and unnecessary damage and disruption for the customer and their neighbours, leaving the site fuss free and as tidy as we found it.
We can do a full structural survey and report to make sure that the source of the cracking is fully addressed, helping to make sure that cracking won't reappear.

What are crack stitch repairs?

Crack stitching is a proven technique used to repair cracks that appear in masonry walls. As the name suggests, it involves “stitching” the cracks to restore structural stability. This method is widely used and highly effective in addressing wall deterioration caused by a variety of factors. Despite cracked brickwork being a common issue for property owners, structural cracks can be permanently fixed through proper using an engineered crack stitching solution.
How to identify cracks
Regular inspection of a building's structure is essential for detecting structural cracks, which can often go unnoticed. Property and facility managers should carry out routine surveys, especially during the warmer months when rising temperatures can lead to increased wall movement.
You may need crack stitching if you observe visible cracks in the brickwork or mortar bed joints of your property. While many cracks are easy to spot, professional assessment can be beneficial. If you're unsure, our specialist team at JTC Structural Repairs will complete a fully refundable structural survey (if you choose us to carry out the work) which will come with a full report outlining the repairs needed and a FINAL quotation for repairs carried out- meaning you will pay only what you are quoted, no unexpected surprises or costs that may spring up during the repair process.
How are crack stitch repairs carried out?
Crack stitching repairs involve installing high grade stainless steel bars or composite bars across the cracks to reinforce the masonry.
The helical bars are typically installed with in the bed-joint of the brick or stone work in order to reduce visibility without compromising performance.
A diamond bladed wall saw attached to an M class dust extraction unit is used to remove the bed joint and make space for the helical wire and resin or grout, whilst also making sure there is minimal mess for our customers and their neighbours. The installed stitch is left 10mm below the finished surface to allow for the replacement of mortar or to be rendered over- leaving the repair almost unnoticeable once the repointed mortar has dried, or the render has been completed.

What causes structural cracks?
Structural cracks can develop for a range of reasons, including:
-
Seasonal temperature fluctuations
-
Water damage/ingress
-
Soil instability
-
Nearby tree root induced soil shrinkage
-
Foundation settlement
-
Escape of water from defective drains or downpipes
-
Structural design defect
For instance, high temperatures can cause building materials to expand, while colder conditions cause them to contract. These cycles place stress on walls and may lead to cracking. Additionally, subsidence—often worsened by hot weather—can further contribute to structural movement and damage.
How serious are structural cracks?

Left unchecked, cracking can develop into serious structural issues. In this photo, JTC Structural Repairs were able to save the building from further deterioration and restored structural integrity.
Cracks in brickwork aren't just cosmetic flaws- they're often signs of deeper structural issues. If left unaddressed, these cracks can compromise the integrity of the structure.
Early intervention is key. Prompt repairs not only restore the structural health of the property but are also more cost-effective in the long run by preventing problems from developing into more serious and costly ones.
