It is a common misconception that as soon as masonry has moved, cracked or dropped it no longer carry load and that it cannot be repaired- in most cases it can be repaired using an engineered retrofitted reinforcement system using Strucsol Helical Bar
We were asked if it was possible to repair this unstable brick arch lintel on a period property in Loughborough that had been deemed by others as too badly collapsed to repair.
Once the client had sent us images of the defective brickwork, we were able to advise them that we could repair the lintel and gave a fixed price quotation with a proposed design without needing a physical inspection of the site.
On arrival at the property we found the brickwork had dropped significantly since the initial photos had been taken and that the brickwork was also wobbling above the window frame, as seen below.
Our first job was to clean out the mortar from the dropped brickwork- we then fitted masonry jacks below the dropped brickwork and lifted it back up and into alignment with the stable brickwork

The realigned brickwork was then bonded into place with rapid setting, high strength EASF resin
Once the resin dried we were able to rake out the mortar and install our Strucsol masonry beam hidden within the bed joints of the brickwork whilst maintaining full strength and restoring structural integrity of the lintel.

The brickwork was then repointed to match the existing brickwork and the temporary support jacks were removed.

The job was completed in a single day for the exact price we quoted.
In addition to our own 10 year warranty our engineered repair system is also available with an independent underwritten warranty should you or your building society require it.
